Daily Protein

Daily Dose Of Protein And Fibre

Why is Protein Important?

  • Proteins are essential for building, maintaining and repairing body tissue.
  • They are present in every cell and are essential for hair, skin, eyes, muscles and organs.
  • Kids require more protein per pound of their body weight than adults due to the fact that they are continuously building new tissues made out of proteins.

  • A source of energy is protein.
  • Protein is the foundation of hormones.
  • A protein is an enzyme.
  • Molecules are bound and transported by transport proteins both inside cells and across the body. e.g.haemoglobin
  • A protein produces antibodies. e.g. Immunoglobulin G (IgG).

•Protein and fibre deficiency is becoming more prevalent in India. According to the report, over 70% of Indians are protein deficient. (Source: Indian Market Research Bureau 2022)

•Obesity is on the rise across all age groups as a result of the consumption of empty calories deficient in dietary fibre.

•The snacking habit of consuming junk food is on the rise.

Children love junk food because it is tasty, convenient, and widely accessible. Parents occasionally permit kids to carry packaged food from home since convenience is so important. More than once a week, 92% of kids eat processed food. When hunger strikes, 30% stated there are limited options. Almost 73% of Indians, across all age groups and genders, have protein deficiencies, while at the same time, obesity rates are rising as a result of the consumption of packaged foods that are high in fat, salt, and sugar (HFSS), are packed with pointless calories, and lack both protein and fibre.

According to the EAT Lancet-Commission research, Indians consume less complex carbs, proteins, fruits, and vegetables in their diets and more simple carbohydrates. According to the Indian Consumer Market 2020, processed foods and cereals account for a large portion of monthly food budgets, with only one-third going towards items high in protein.

How Much Protein Do We Need?
